Rogers RO4350B hydrocarbon ceramics and RO4835 hydrocarbon ceramics two materials belong to the RO4000 series of Rogers high frequency PCB materials. They are all difference from FR4 PCB materials. RO4000 series is hydrocarbon resin and ceramic filler laminate material, it is compatible with FR4 high-frequency mixing lamination, FR4 processing technology, lead-free welding technology, to ensure that high-frequency PCB manufacturers only need to have lower processing capacity, reduce customers’ PCB processing cost. And its low loss (dielectric loss (Df) 0.0037@10GHz), Dielectric constant temperature stability is better (50ppm/°C@-50°Cto150°C), compared with the traditional PTFE material heat treatment capacity will be better (heat dissipation coefficient 0.6W/m/°K), low Z-axis thermal expansion coefficient (31ppm/°C) to improve the reliability of the through hole, etc. It can guarantee the excellent electrical performance of 24GHz radar front-end and antenna. It also belongs to UL94V-0 class flame retardant material, which provides further guarantee for the safety of radar system.
The biggest difference between the two is that the Rogers RO4835 added antioxidants, compared with the traditional thermosetting material oxidation resistance increased by 10 times, and meet the requirements of IPC-4103 (High Speed High Frequency substrate Specification). Rogers RO4835 added antioxidant material, its oxidation resistance is stronger than Rogers RO4350B. In addition to the difference between Dk and Df, the temperature characteristics of Dk of the products with glass cloth are relatively worse, and the temperature range of the products is higher. The coefficient of thermal expansion becomes worse, especially the Z-axis, and the relative layer number of products will decrease. The phase characteristics of high frequency are relatively poor, and the product with harsh requirements for phase is best avoided. The advantage is that the product’s dimensional stability, hardness and water absorption rate are relatively good.
The 24G security radar system operates at a frequency of 24 ~ 24.25GHz with a total bandwidth of 250MHz, and adopts the waveform of FMCW to operate. Due to its characteristics of high frequency and short wavelength, the RF front-end and antenna of the radar system can only use high-frequency microwave materials, while the security industry is full of competition. The high frequency microwave materials need not only good performance, but also moderate price, that is, high cost performance of high frequency microwave materials.
ROGERS, an internationally renowned manufacturer of high frequency microwave materials, has launched two kinds of high frequency microwave RF PCB materials, RO4350B hydrocarbon ceramic and RO4835 hydrocarbon ceramic, for 24G security radar market and different application scenarios.
